This perk feeds from broken totems, doesn't matter if it was a hex or adull. But having an active totem will increase chances of survivors wanting to break totem. The problem is the actual boon meta let survivors get rid of your hex totem witouth breaking them while buffing their team so if i were you i would avoid pentimento on high mmr
