Choosing to do a research is a very personal decision that no one else can make for you. Like you, I scored a 258 on Step 1 (not AOA or GH). I chose dermatology very late (spring MS3 year) and was weak on research because most of my papers were submitted, not accepted/published at the time ERAS was due.
