The obverse side says "Remington Rand Inc" and below that it says "Syracuse NY USA". It was inspected by Frank J. Save for those small details the Remington R1 is a great duplicate of the first guns the company produced way back when. All controls of the gun are correct and what you would expect for a 1911. The grip safety is genuine, with a full cocked-and-locked lever.I have become an accidental collector of old military pistols. I have a 1916 DWM Luger, a Mauser 1934/w holster, a Victory S&W 38, and now a Remington Rand 1911A1. As a side note, I served in the Marine Corps from 1965-1971. The Serial number is N04936, being one of the first 5000 ever issued to the Army. It's not in bad shape but does have some wear especially on the trigger and a small amount near the muzzle.The Ordnance Dept. reassigned half of Ithaca's original serial number block of 1743847 - 1890503 to Remington Rand which was 1743847 - 1816641. I stripped it down and the frame and slide are both made by remington rand and show the correct P stamps. The slide is a Remington Rand made between 1943 and 1945, and the markings you describe on the slide are not standard and were added at some later date. Reply.
