One of my persistent frustrations with the Civilization series of games is the way that it handles difficulty levels. Granted, this seems to be a common issue in all strategy games, so Civ is certainly not unique in this frustration. Basically, the higher difficulties don't make the A.I.s play better; rather, it just gives them free stuff at the beginning of the game, and buffs their ...Civ 5 Difficulty chart. This is what makes Deity difficulty such a herculean feat if you're unprepared for it. The AI is smarter, faster, and comes with bonuses that give it an edge over your empire.

Changing the difficulty at this stage, with them already having gotten the startup bonuses wouldn't really do much. this is incorrect. a lot of the difficulty is a change in costs of policies, units, maintainence, happiness, tech, and what not. there are some early game start stuff but most of it is a cumalitive affect of all these bonuses. The AI gets more units and other bonuses on King or higher, which means they are better at cleaning barbarian camps and expanding to cover more ground, so higher difficulties have a tendency to have less barbarian camps. Read this thread. It explains some hidden barbarian mechanics that you help you understand how they work.

Messages. 3. Nov 20, 2020. #1. So the "difficulty" levels above Prince aren't really so much about the AI making better decisions, like it would in chess. Really, it's just cheating. It can do everything faster. So any ability to defeat the AI above Prince is not based on skill at the game, but based on the ability to deal with cheating.

Always invest into defensive units early on. On Deity with a normal civ/start, my typical first few moves will be Scout into Slinger into Settler, then often another Warrior/Slinger soon after. Other people prefer slightly different things, but the key thing you'll see is a lot of people get an early Slinger. The ai above warlorld difficulty gets bonus x% from science, culture, faith, production, gold and gets free tech + free units at the start of a game. Very much enjoying Civ6 and all the expansions. Started with the tutorial at the lowest difficulty and have been methodically working my way up. With every difficulty level typically there would be a modest learning curve, but I usually found pay dirt after a couple of attempts. With the King level, however, I seem to have hit a brick wall, and after numerous tries I'm starting to get frustrated.

The weakest part of Civ 6's AI is maxing yields and domination (hence the insane bonuses), so if firaxis fixes that, there's really no need for a fully trained AI. This has everything. In short: higher difficulty means AI gets larger stat bonuses. Most notably they start with extra units, including extra settlers.E.g. in combat between a settler human vs. a deity AI, human gets +2 and the AI +4. In combat between settler human vs. deity human, settler guy gets +2, deity guy nothing. King to emperor difficulty threshold. I am finding it hard to set up the game with an appropriate challenge level. Prince level is like playing Farmville, honestly. King level is a bit better but still waay too easy. Just set up 3-4 cities before 100 turns, develop them before 200 turns, then train units and take over the world. But looking them up it seems Prince is the best level for AI not being unbalanced against a human player becuase of bonuses. Since lower difficulties gives the player bonuses that the AI doesn't have instead. Certainly, Prince is always considered the "Standard" difficulty level. #6.
