As it comes to it, the class I use the most is warden and everyone who knows me calls me a warden main. Funny actually, bringing a non-warden to a trial and being asked to run warden skills. To clarify, I leveled the Templar to 43 did main quest and 2 DLC + faction, Scorcerer to 17 and just the main quest. Play with whichever you'll have the most fun with and make it your crafter. I have 18 toons with every class having a mag, stam, and tank variant. The OG mag sorc is for questing/crafting.High elf or breton are the best races for them. Magblade is easy from the offset as the main attack swallow soul heals you for a lot. Magsorc get real good once you hit 42 in the storm calling tree and unlock power surge. They are the two strongest solo mage classes in game. Magblade can also be played stealthy.
