Default apocalypse settings, back in 41.56 I'd find guns and ammo on zeds every once in a while (even non-police zeds), and survivor houses were usually pretty good with melee weapons and ammo. Ever since 41.60 dropped however they've been really poor, making firearms somehow even MORE unsustainable than they were previously.

The normal game settings are more of a "how to challenge players who have 20 mods installed and over 1k hours if playtime." level. They don't make much sense. Recommended start out: custom server. Set all loot to abundant, set infection to everybody, but never fatal. Set XP multiplyer to 3 or 4.

I always start in Rosewood. I almost never actually stay there, usually I've secured a car and bugged out within 2 days, but I always start there because it's by far the best place to start. Everything that you need to get you going is in Rosewood and it's all contained within a short distance of everything else.

Chopper/Helicopter day is quite random. Usually it is on the 7th day, but it can also occur on any other day. (Well at least used to be like that during last year's end.) I had it coming on the 3rd day, but also on the 15th day.
