Sequoia National Park is worth getting there but do more research than I did. It is very out of the way. The trees are a good 45-50 minutes into the park, and most lodging is at least 30 minutes from the park gate. The area around Sequoia is not great, and there are few lodging and food choices. Go to the parking lot and hike 7/10 of a mile OR take a shuttle from the parking lot to an easy 3/10 of a mile hike to the tree. Lots of beautiful scenery and big trees here.
