Tranq arrow damage comes from you. Scorpion damage does not. Using a scorpion will not affect initial taming effectiveness at all (the initial bite of food will mean it doesn't start at 100% though, usually 99.8 or something). Tranq arrows, on the other hand, can cause the initial taming effectiveness to start much lower.
