She is a passionate advocate for cultural equity, cultural studies, and education. Dr. Marta Moreno Vega is an Afro-Puerto Rican visual artist, activist, scholar, author, educator, and Yoruba priestess. She was born and raised in El Barrio in New York City. From 1972 to 1976 she served as the director of El Museo Del Barrio in New York. In 1976, she founded the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI).Marta Morena Vega is a Nuyorican (a New Yorker of Puerto Rican descent), who grew up in the historically Puerto Rican neighborhood of East Harlem, also known as El Barrio.
