The reason is because the penalty is given to you from being overweight, and not picking the trait itself. The major reason obese is considered bad (though I usually take it anyways) is because it reduces your fitness.Now if you have 1 extra point, add it, beside of the speed, it also gives acceleration which is good for towing cars, if you need 1 point, add sunday driver but you won't be able to easily or never tow cars.
