For most students, the SHSAT in general is a tough test, and yes, for most SHSAT 9 is tougher than SHSAT 8. I wouldn't mix SAT prep with SHSAT if I could avoid it. There is of course some overlap, but there is also overlap with the NY State Test and I'd be hard pressed to say the NY State Test and the SHSAT are comparable if you know what I mean.
