The Equator passes through the northern part of the continent and the Tropic of Capricorn runs roughly through the middle. Because of its tapering shape, a major part of the landmass is in the tropics. Deforestation is a major problem in developing countries of South America. Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia are all producers that help the economy grow; however, the price for that is deforestation. The removal of these trees and other types of vegetation reduces available food, shelter, and breeding habitats for animals.A review of the available knowledge on the Gran Chaco vegetation and the modeling environmental factors is presented. The latter are the best studied, and the plant taxonomy is well established.The Challenge. The temperate grasslands of South America form a vast and heterogeneous biome distributed in four ecoregions – paramos, puna, pampas and campos and the Patagonian steppe. These grasslands occur in every country (except the three Guianas) and occupy about 13% of the continent (2.3 million square kilometres).North America, the third-largest continent, extends from the tiny Aleutian Islands in the northwest to the Isthmus of Panama in the south.
