Claymore and zweihander are like sibling swords in a lot of ways, both have good rates at which they break guard. Additionally the claymore 1h r1 has nice horizontal slashes capable of dead angles, like the zweihander's r1. Most players use the weapons in a very similar manner offensively, the difference in the weapons is really in defensive play. Raw is literally worthless in DS1, stick to the normal upgrade path. Normal +14/+15 are strictly better than Raw +5. You could use it to get a little more base damage in the early game... but you could just rush the Very Large Ember instead, which gives you a better weapon that doesn't waste titanite.

Zweihander has tons of reach. But it's slow, swing when the enemy is right on top of you, they'll interrupt you and wreck your shit up. The key is to back up, and swing a bit early.
