Prop slip calculator.

Compare your theoretical speed to your actual speed to get a feel for slip and efficiency. Once that is done you will have a much better grasp on which direction to go in prop selection. Now there is a fair chance you may be bouncing off the rev limiter with your current prop and new motor. So be it. At least you have a baseline from which to ...

Calculated propeller slip within the range of 5% to 25% is typical and acceptable. If slip is greater than 25%, there is likely an issue with the propeller. It could be damaged or just wildly wrong for the boat …Let's calculate the advance ratio at an engine speed of 4300 RPM and a propeller diameter of 1.70 m (approximately 5.7 inches) with the aircraft flying at 120 knots. V = 120 k t s = 120 × 0.51444 = 61.73 m. s − 1 4300 R P M = 4300 60 = 71.67 r p s. This special slide rule lets you quickly calculate propeller slip. (The other side of the slide rule is designed to calculate the performance of a given boat/engine combination when changing to higher- or lower- horsepower engines.)

What is the average amount of prop slip? I just ran some numbers on mine and am coming up at 33%! I have a 1990 wellcraft nova with a bravo drive and brand...EDIT: A gear ratio of 2.0 with 24" props at 3400 RPM and 27 MPH gives a prop slip of 30%, which is extremely high for a normal prop, much less a dual prop B3. My B3 on my 22' boat runs with a prop slip of 2% to 3%. A 2.2 drive with your same speeds and RPM would give a prop slip of 22%, which is still high.

A chart that included the make, model & size boat, twin or tri-toon, strakes or TAP, motor brand, HP and 2 or 4 stroke, size and type prop along with RPM and GPS speed would be invaluable. Re: Propping Chart and information. Got a 18' pontoon with a Suzuki DF70 on it. That's very very basic, assuming no change in prop slip, but should be in the ballpark. But again, that's assuming that a 22 pitch prop would be right with the original gear ratio.BAM's online boating mega-catalog. All the parts and accessories you need to get on the water FAST! I used a couple of prop slip calculators online, and with the numbers above they calculated 27% slippage. Obviously that isn't good. With a theoretical 12% slip, the calculators suggest I should be hitting 52 MPH or so. My boat had only 1/8 a tank of gas, and was not loaded down with junk (just life jackets, fenders, a few tools, and safety gear).

How do I know what size propeller I need? The proper propeller size for your boat and engine combination is based in part on the wide open throttle (WOT) operating range for your particular engine. You can find this in your operator's manual, expressed in terms of a certain horsepower at a certain r.p.m.Richard, This question concerns the relarionship of the prop''s pitch and its actual travel through the water at any given speed. You need to know this to accurately calculate the hull speed of a vessel at a given engine and therefore the prop''s RPM. Slip in % = 100 X ( Prop pitch in feet X prop rpm - vessel speed in knots devided by prop pitch in feet X prop rmp ) This is one formula to ...In reality since the propeller is attached to a shaft it will not actually move forward, but instead propel the ship forward. The distance the ship is propelled forward in one propeller rotation is actually less than the pitch. The difference between the nominal pitch and the actual distance traveled by the vessel in one rotation is called slip.Propeller Calculator: NMPH or Knots. Add More Weight to the Boat. One way to reduce prop slip is to add more weight to the boat. This will increase the downward force on the bow and help keep it pushed down into the water. You can add weight by filling up empty containers with water or sand and placing them in strategic locations on the boat.

This adds up to higher speeds and better fuel economy with less engine trim - because less horsepower is used to lift the boat, and more power is devoted to achieving top-end speed and acceleration.
