Sosiel is actually pretty alright in melee. Just slap his buff spells on before combat and get domain zealot. Adding his level to attack does a lot for his ability, not to mention guarded hearth for boss fights and hard encounters. Also, enduring spell breaks the game and he has the best spell lost for it.
